Currently there is a number of publications used by Australian Authorities to be used in guidance in the acceptance of a product. If it is not accepted in one, but OK in another it will be accepted, even though it may a proven carcinogen and banned in a large number of countries. State Premiers and Health Ministers in Australia agreed that Genetically Modified/Engineered foods should be labelled. The former Prime Minister must have thought that Australians are stupid, by saying that it would cost MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to add 3 words to a label - "Contains GE Products"! Who's side is he on? What about our current PM, no word from him on this subject! Some producers have noted (and required by law in some countries) that "additives that are harmful" on their products' packages, and they still continue to use these harmful additives. It is possible to read the ingredients of some products on their packages, but definitions of additives on the packages are numbers according Australian and EU standards, or some chemical names, and therefore it is impossible to understand which ones are harmful to you. Because testing is expensive, researchers are encouraged to supply the results that will make the product appear to be OK. Companies pay researchers after the results are in, and if it is not favourable (eg. harmful if consumed), the researchers may not get paid for their work and then it may take up to twenty years or more before the product is taken off the market, where as the company is making profits during this time! Dr. Diana Dow-Edwards showed that Monsanto's artificial sweetener Aspartame caused birth defects. Monsanto refused to pay for the research costs or accept the results of her work and was greatly out of pocket because she did not find favourable results. Some of additives are entirely vegetable, but most of them are of animal or artificial origin. It is especially of interest to Muslims as they can not use the additives derived from pig or animals which have not been slaughtered by Islamic method. The additives shown in the pages linked on the left side are studied and interpreted carefully. It is important that you are using harmless additives for a healthy life. Article: Food additives: What you don¡¯t know can (and does) hurt you (July 12, 2009) The numbers which start with 'E' are the equivalent used in the EEC (or EU), and the others are Australian.
If it is in red, it is not recommended to consume the
product containing this additive. Azo dyes can cause hives/ant rashes, plus they are thought to cause bladder cancer. And as a result of this, the American government has banned the handling of 70 azo dyes as being cancer causing. They are thought to be absorbed through the skin in hair care products, and people with a sensitivity to permanent hair dyes that contain p-phenylene diamine may also have a sensitivity to azo dyes. Unfortunately, healthy, natural colours cost more and the greed to make more money wins over common sense. What happened to days when a skull and crossbones was recognised by everyone (even small children) that a product was a poison? Look and ask before you eat. Once a great delicacy here in Australia, the humble meat pie, pasties and sausages now contain MSG (monosodium glutamate (621)) and less meat. Every dose of MSG (a neurotoxin) destroys brain neurons that carry messages in both children and adults. MSG is not required by the body as it makes what it needs. All of the flavour enhancers are neurotoxins (code 620 to 625). MSG is not permitted in baby foods, but why is it there? People who react to MSG typically react similarly to Aspartame and visa versa when it exceeds their tolerance. Glutamic acid (the reactive component of MSG and 40 other food ingredients with names that provide no clue to its presence) and aspartic acid (approx. 40% of aspartame) load on the receptors of the brain, causing identical brain lesions and neuroendocrine disorders, and act in an addictive fashion.
In the U.S. and Australia, toothpaste tube boxes (which get thrown in the
recycle bin) have warnings about the
potentially harmful contents, but not on the tube itself! Why bother? Have you
checked to see how many toothpastes in Australia have
propylene glycol (1520), which is also used in other
products such as cough medicines for children, cosmetics, radiator coolant, etc.
Wayne Stevenson of the US FDA Cosmetics Registration Section says that "The cosmetic
manufacturers aren't required to submit safety data to the FDA, so we don't really know what sorts of tests they run.; When they run tests, they keep the results in their own files." ("Smelling Good But Feeling Bad", Franz et al, E Magazine Vol. 11, no 1, Jan-Feb 2000).
The US FDA must prove in a court of law that a product may be injurious... before the product can be recalled.; The FDA admits they don't have the budget to win in court against the giant cosmetic companies.
I suppose that it is the same in Australia and other countries around the world.
I do recommend to contact your local Member of Parliament - Federal and State - to raise the
issues of chemical companies and product manufacturers making us all sick unwillingly. |
